Compatibility with other UPnP Devices

3rd party software and devices that use the UPnP-AV / DLNA standard may be integrated into the Raumfeld system. Depending on the type of device it may serve a different purpose:
 

• UPnP-AV Players may be used as an alternative to Raumfeld Speakers or a Connector.
• UPnP-AV Control Points may complement your Raumfeld Controller or Raumfeld App with controlling music playback in your Raumfeld.
• UPnP-AV Media Servers may be integrated as a music resource for My Music.

In a UPnP-AV network, playback devices access contents over the network and are controlled by a control point.

There is a huge number of UPnP-AV playback devices from other manufacturers you may integrate into your Raumfeld system. As well, you may turn your computer into a UPnP-AV player by installing a certain software. You can then easily control music playback on the computer via the Raumfeld Controller or the Raumfeld App.

Please mind the following remarks:

• Devices from other manufactures that are operated with Raumfeld do not  have perfect synchronisation within a music zone.
• Gapless playback is not supported for 3rd party playback devices. Therefore, you can hear a perceptible pause between two tracks. 
• When purchasing a 3rd party playback device, mind the music and streaming formats supported by the device. Especially low priced internet radios often lack support for important formats.

A UPnP-AV control point automatically detects media contents stored on a UPnP-AV media server. Media contents are presented on the control point and may be selected for playback on a player elsewhere in the network.

As the Raumfeld media server provides its contents via UPnP-AV, any UPnP-enabled control point can access music, radio stations and music services of your Raumfeld system.

However, when accessing Raumfeld media contents with a 3rd pary UPnP-AV control points, mind the following constraints:

• Due to limitations of the UPnP-AV standard it is not possible to edit music zones (Add/remove rooms) with UPnP-AV control points from other manufacturers. In order to listen to the same music in multiple rooms, first connect the rooms via your Raumfeld Controller, then select the music zone on the 3rd party control point (e.g. "Bedroom, Living Room")
• The 3rd party control point will show both the playback device ("Speaker Bedroom") and the music zone ("Bedroom"). Always select the music zone for playback ("Bedroom") in order to access full functionality.
• Most UPnP-AV control points from other manufacturers send one track after another to a playback device or music zone. In order to listen to a full album it is therefore required to keep the control point running.

UPnP-AV media servers provide media content in the network. Many NAS (Network attached storage) come with a pre-installed media server.

UPnP-AV media servers may be used as a music resource for My Music (also see Music Resources). Other than network shares, a UPnP-AV resource notifies clients in the network about changes to its contents. A manual scan for new music is therefore not required. However, compared to network shares or storing music on the Base or a USB disk, the performance of UPnP-AV media servers is restricted.
